Mission Week 31, Bogota City Week 14, "Life Changing Family Night"

Hello family and Friends!

This week was a great learning week for me! (every week is a great learning week). But there was a returned missionary that came home. His name is Juan Sebastian. He served his mission in England. Immediately when he got home he got in contact with us and told us that he wanted to come live with us. That would of been sick, but sadly members can't live with us. This Tuesday we went contacting with Juan almost the entire day. I learned a lot from him by how he communicated with people and how he showed his love for them after only knowing them for 2 mins! He's been with us to almost every teaching appointment that we set this week.

Another highlight from the week was having a family night with Nelfi and Juana (Mother and the daughter from the Galeano Sanchez Family). This family has been going through a lot of family struggles lately with the father, William. He's such a great guy, but there are things that he does that aren't very good. During the family night, we watched a video on the importance of families. This broke both of them down into tears as they truly desire a family with a gospel built foundation. What they really want is a better relationship with William. We promised them that if they would continue on this path and be baptized that their examples would change William. Slowly but surely, he will start to desire the same happiness that his wife and daughter are feeling. I just hope things don't get worse before that happens. Things in life always get a little difficult when we decide to start following God and keep his commandments. It's during those times that we need to pray more than we've ever prayed in our lives. We need to study and ponder the scriptures, and we need to continually keep our desire to faithfully attend our church meetings. The lord will bless you for doing this!

Love you all and hope that you all have a great week!

Mission Week 30, Bogota City Week 13, "Sunday Miracle"

I have been here for a long time! Time is flying by! So I'm 19 years Old now!

My birthday was pretty sick, I ate like 4 cakes. The best part of the day was going to our investigators house. The Galeano Sanchez family threw a little party for me. They decorated their house with American Flags haha. I absolutely love this family and I will baptize them!!

This Sunday we had a miracle! A man names Juan Pablo came to church on his own. He just showed up in sacrament meeting. That doesn't happen very often. After church we go his info. to go over to his house later that day and teach him. While talking with him at his house we found out that he knows about the church through his family. He used to live in Idaho, and while he lived there he went to church a few times and liked it. There were some things that he also didn't like, such as drinking coffee and smoking. He's not addicted but he liked to do those things every so often. So sadly he stopped going and ended up returning to Colombia. After 5 years!, He told us that he came to the chapel that day because he felt something missing in his life. He said he felt something telling him to go. I was hit with a spirit bomb after he said that! He told us straight up before we started the lesson that he wants to get baptized. We hadn't even talked up until this point. This man was prepared by the Lord. The church is true people!

I learned something that has been helping me out a lot lately. Focus on the little things you do, because by small and simple things are great things brought to pass! HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Mission Week 29, Bogota City Week 12, "Baptismal Dates"

Hi family and friends!

This was another great week.
Some highlights from the week...

This Wednesday we were able to set a baptismal date for a abuelita in the Casteñeda family. This family is less-active, but we were able to call the grandmother and she kindly opened up her door to let us share a message with her. She has been going through a lot a lot a lot of problems in her life. She couldn't help but just bawl as she talked about everything. We were able to share our testimonies with her on the blessing of baptism. We both felt impressed to ask her if she would prepare to be baptized. She accepted! So we'll be working with her to get her ready.

On Friday, we had to bodyguard the sisters the entire day. I guess some guy was trying to get their contacting info. and we had no idea who it was. There was also a really weird looking man who came to church the previous Sunday. The Zone-leaders called us and asked us to stick with them for the day.

Saturday night, we went to the Galeano Sanchez home and they put on a full on feast for us. Every time we come over they always cook up something for us! We played a board game called YA!

Sunday, Nelfi and Juana from the Galeano Sanchez family came to church on Sunday! Since they've attended sacrament meeting 3 times now we can baptize them! They have grown so much from the first time we visited them. The mother wants to live with her family for eternity! She learned about eternal families this Sunday and she absolutely loved it! The only thing we have to do now is get the father in on this!

Love you all and hope your week is wonderful and filled with blessings!

Mission Week 28, Bogota City Week 11, "New Mission President"

This week was super great!

We had a lot of time to be able to visit with the Galeano Sanchez family. They are accepting to do all the things that the Lord has asked of them. One thing that is stopping us for now is that the father, William, has a smoking problem. He wants to quit, but he really likes to smoke. This is my first time helping someone with an addiction. I know that one thing will help him, and that's reading in the Book of Mormon. If he can really feel in his heart that these things are true, and the love that our Father in Heaven has for him I know that he'll have the desire and strength to quit. For now we're going to focus on reading the Book of Mormon with him. William didn't come to church this Sunday, which was pretty sad, but his wife (Nelfi) and daughter (Juana) came. They are pressing forward and are wanting to do everything they can to do the right things.

We met our new president this week. His name is President Valladares. He and his wife are from Honduras. They super cool and you can feel the love they have for each and every one of use as they introduced themselves.

They're are many missionaries ending their missions after this week. We've heard that about 16 new missionaries from the U.S will be coming in the next coming weeks. I hope that I can be apart of the activity that the MTC here has. I might get to take two fresh missionaries with me for the day! It's amazing to see how much you can learn in such a short amount of time. I remember going out for this activity in the MTC and OH boy have I grown so much haha.

You have to focus on the little things if you want to have success. If not then you`re just working hard for no reason, and the results that you wanted will not turn out the way you want them. For me I have seen the importance of goal setting, but then setting smaller goals to complete the big ones. For example, I want to learn spanish. That is a goal that I have. Now, what am I going to do to accomplish that goal? I`m going to set smaller goals. Those goals are, reading the Book of Mormon in spanish, learning vocabulary, grammer, pronunciation. Then, how are you going to complete those goals!? You have to identify everything possible that will help you to complete your big goal, and then start working on how you`re going to complete the small ones. If you do that, you can be successful in just about everything you want to do. Set planes, for every little thing that you`re trying to accomplish.

Impressions of Bogotà
I live right next to the president of Colombia, his name is President Duque.

I love you all, and hope you have a great week!

Mission Week 27, Bogota City Week 10, "The Awesome Referral"

Every week has it's ups and downs, but it really doesn't matter how many downs there are because that one "UP" makes the entire week amazing.

This week we struggled to find new people to teach. Our investigators that we have been teaching haven't been here since there all going on vacations. For the first couple of days we were having a hard time even getting into peoples houses. Then Thursday hit.

On Thursday, I was really excited because we FINALLY had a time set to go visit Nora. Nora is an investigator who has a baptismal date for the 7th of July. As we were walking to her house, we decided to call her just to confirm things. When we were called her, she ended up telling us that she was on vacation and wayyyyy the heck out of Bogotà. I was pretty bummed out by that. That means she's not going to get baptized this coming week...

We started walking down the road when we got a message on our phone. It was a reference from the offices. Since our teaching appointment fell, we went straight to this reference to go contact it. Turns out, this house was literally right in front of us! We were about two houses down from this reference. When we got there, we found a man outside smoking a cigarette. He told us, " Are you those mormons that I've heard about?". We were like, heck yea. He immediately started to smile and got super excited. He invited us in to his home and we started talking. Then this mans wife walked in. This lady went nuts right after she heard we were missionaries. I was like what the heck is going on here. Turns out they have a son in Utah. His name is Christian. The missionaries found him there and started teaching him. He really loves what he is learning because he started calling his family and telling them all about it. The family consists of William (father), Nelfi (Mother), Christian (son), Juana (Daughter). This families desire to get closer to God was amazing. They literally are willing to take on any compromise we leave for them. We taught them the Restoration. We ended up having to leave since they wouldn't stop asking us so many questions! It was amazing! They are so excited to learn. Our second teaching appointment with them was even better than the first. We had left them with folletos of the Restoration, and there are various questions in the back of the brochure about what the lesson is about, but it goes more into depth. The daughter! Who's 15 years old! Filled the entire thing out! She started stating things from the Bible in Marcos, Juan, Matthew, etc.. I was shook. Here understanding of the Restoration was amazing! We taught the Galeano Sanchez family about the Book of Mormon. They accepted the invitation to read, ponder, and pray. They also accepted a date to get baptized on the 21st of July my BIRTHDAY WOO WOO! They had the chance to come to church this Sunday and it was perfect because it was fast and testimonies meeting. The spirit was felt in that meeting. We have a family night planned with them this week. This family is definitely a miracle.

Love you all!
